Never Mine, Never Mind

by Blair Borax

/

about

I wrote this song after a bad break up, while I was reckoning with the realization that the person I was sleeping next to was not who I thought they were. And the relationship I was in was not what I thought it was either.

“I think I loved who I thought that you were, now I must think it over. You never were who I thought that you were, never my four leaf clover.”

It’s was so tempting to put rose-colored glasses on and see what I wanted to see, instead of what was really there. And it was a sad and scary realization to take off those glasses and see the truth.

“You were never my pretty picture // four leaf clover // ever after happily // star-crossed lover // endless summer // flesh and blood fantasy”

“You were never mine, never mind.”

Brutal as it was, I am so glad I was able to face the facts, so that I could see my way out of a sticky situation and keep walking toward greener ~and healthier~ pastures.

Anyone else been there?
