I'm Not Listening

by Blair Borax

/

about

This song is a letter to my inner-critic, written in the midst of one of those pesky self-doubt spirals. It was the hand that reached down and pulled me out.

I hope that it can be:
-a kind friend to you through this ‘new year, new me’ moment
-a birds eye view on how much you've grown, whenever you get stuck in the weeds
-the hand that pulls you out of your head & out of your bed when you can't seem to do it yourseld
-a voice of rhyme and reason in this winter season

The TLDR is: Dear Inner Critic, STFU. Love, Blair.

lyrics

I’M NOT LISTENING

Why am I always filling my head
With sounds sights sensations and
Sitting here still thinking
I want more

Why am I always wondering how
I could do better and more and right now
Talking down to myself
Not anymore

It’s so easy to get in your head
Thinkin’ I may as well stay in bed
I’m not listening til I’m dead
I’m not listening

Why can’t I will away the wanting
Something to be different, it’s starting to haunt me
Everytime I get what I want
I want more

Why can’t I look around and see
I’m beginning to look a lot like me
And who cares what they say
Not anymore

It’s so easy to get in your head
Thinkin’ I may as well stay in bed
I’m not listening til I’m dead
I’m not listening

All these eyes are watching me
I wonder what they think
All I want is to get free
I think I’m on the brink

It’s so easy to get in your head
Thinkin’ I may as well stay in bed
I’m not listening til I’m dead
I’m not listening

It’s so easy to stay in your bed
Thinkin’ I can’t get out of my head
I’m not listening til I’m dead
I’m not listening

I’m not listening til I’m dead
I’m not listening til I’m dead
I’m not listening til I’m dead
I’m not listening
